Please explain |
I read the following on foxnews.com regarding the northern CA quake last night. Would someone please explain? "Steve Walter, a USGS seismologist in Menlo Park, said it was fortunate the quake did not actually occur on the Rodgers Creek Fault, the northern extension of the dangerous Hayward Fault, which many say is due for a major rupture." Why is it fortunate that yesterday's quake near Rohnert Park did not actually occur on the Rodgers Creek Fault? Isn't it possible that the quake's proximity to the RCF could precipitate a quake to occur on the RCF? Or is this not true?
