Hi Cathryn, Chris brought up this possibility last week. It is not a new idea, but it does seem to playing out for now. Hard to say how far it will go. Don in Hollister did some searches on the area, and this activity seems to be new, at least for the records we have. It looks like the regional stress pattern has nucleated into the transtensional infill or the metamorphic/igneous basement complex under the Salton Sea. The alluvial infill is 4 to 6 km deep, so I will have to check some depths on the micros. They have been hitting about 8 Km so far.
