I was driving home from JFK about 1 AM and Jim Berklund came on some syndicated radio show...that was carried on ABC radio here...they were talking about this new article, and then about Berklund's methods...Berklund (sp?) said this southern San Andreas stuff is not new....and most of it is not...it's been known for quite a while that it has been 300 years. I have not read the new study, but it seems from your posts that it is a confirmation that the deep San Andreas is moving along about as expected...accumulating strain, that will be release in major or great earthquake on locked upper San Andreas...One thing that Berklund said that made sense is that any precursors might be varied and one needs to look at everything....however... there are quakes that may have no precursors (maybe most?). Berklund went on about how animals would be frightened/confused by magnetic fields....but there are huge changes in magnetic fields during magnetic storms...and I don't think it is known at all that there are changes in magnetic fields before earthquakes. He did say something interesting about a pattern over the last 100 years of M6 quakes occurring a year or so after very wet winters...seems he is expecting one...
