Re: Scripps article |
I went to the Scripps website to read the article and now I have a few questions. Why did Yuri Fialko use "data provided by the European Space Agency?" Why European help and not U.S. NASA help? In the video of the ground shaking caused by the hypothetical earthquake on the SAF, what cause the wave simulation to take a left turn from the SAF and head toward Los Angeles? Is it because the bedrock of the mountains, the San Bernardino range, cause resistance and the waves continue on the path of least resistance to the west? I guess that (a mountain range)would explain why San Diego is not the recipient of greater shaking in the model. Also, I guess, there would be some soils along the way which would be subject to liquefaction which would amplify the shaking in the LA Basin and the San Gabriel Valley. The video doesn't show any waves being generated in the direction of Las Vegas where I live, but I'm sure we would feel an earthquake of that magnitude along the southern SAF. One more question: has anyone heard of Mr. Yuri Fialko before?
