Quake Swarm Near Huntington, Utah

Hi All. Just received this in my e-mail. Found it to be an eye opener. I knew there had been a marked increase in activity in that area, but hadn’t realized it was to this extent.

Please keep in mind that this not a warning, only an advisory of the two possibilities. Take Care…Don in creepy town.

Since 00:00 UT 17 October 2000 another 105 events have occurred in the Huntington, Utah region. Combined with the previous events since 14 October, this swarm now contains nearly 200 events of Ml<2. The largest event in this swarm has been Ml 1.7.
Swarms of this type indicate one of two possible causes: 1) a new fault forming, with a potential large earthquake when it ruptures or 2) Magmatic activity with no potentially large event forthcoming. In this area, the first scenario seems most likely.
