Good punning! But, seriously, Marc should know that the existence of creep does not in any way mean that stress is not building. Though, in some places, Hollister for instance, existence of creep is correlated with lack of major seismicity, that cannot be justified as a general rule. Creep exists in many areas which are subject to major quakes. I don't know exactly, but I suspect a characteristic quake on the Hayward Fault could produce 15 or 20 feet of slip at the surface. Clearly the creep, even over a period of a couple of hundred years, is not sufficient to relieve the developing stress.
