I made the same assumption and was really shocked this morning to see the toll had risen to 3000. (and you're right, Cathryn, the toll will climb) Its all too easy for me as a lay-person to look at a map and forget exactly how the waves of a quake spread out from the epicenter.

I have not been to that place, but to Indonesia many times and the people are wonderful. Its sad to think that they have to struggle through this among all the other things they deal with.
