To listen to some of the people talk on S.G.E, a person would think that these variables are known. :-)

I suppose when you said, "If you knew in advance the saucer's breaking strain and the rate of force increase in the piston" is that no two plates have the same amount of breaking strain nor is the rate of increase in force the same in any two areas.
