Howdy, I think John would have the best info on this. My big question is if a subduction process and a transform process would have the same precursory heat release signitures. I doubt it. From what I have gathered from studies is that subduction creates net heat energy that would be visible all the time. An episodic tremor and slip could create an abnormal release but no large quake would occur. Thinking out loud.
