Re: Q for Petra - Got It |
Hi Glen, As I tell the researchers in my group, you have one tone and you get one quake. If both fit perfectly then you have to chose which one you think belongs to that ear tone. In this case we only have one quake that matches your ear tone from what you said, so Qualley's Camp would be an earthquake at Qualley's Camp and nothing more. *grin* Actually, the issue of having two possible locations matching an ear tone hasn't happened in years. What lets me know which location is the correct one is the descriptions we provide when we make our reports. The little details usually make it abundantly clear where earthquakes are going to arrive if chosing between one place and another. But that is not written in stone. One of the things I have enjoyed over so many years of reading reports are the notes. It is a fascination to read time and again little things we noticed and finding the earthquakes had a special quality to them which only that description could have matched. Since I can't remember when, I have heard ear tones for the Golden Gate Bridge area and I swear I hear the sound of a fog horn. Well, 100hz does sound like a fog horn, so it's no wonder. I don't think I've enjoyed doing anything as much as I have in working on this project and the wonderful people who add their experiences to it. And I don't mind sharing much of what we do, but when other people borrow it and use it for their own without giving credit to the years of work we compiled it bothers me. That's the downside of not being able to formally publish our work. Yet at the same time I do want to teach people how to use what comes naturally and for them it's not a matter of borrowing, but using information in the most positive way. It boils down to people who have nothing going for them having such a desire to get attention that they borrow the information, but they won't give credit to the source. You can say copyright as often as you like, but if they change a word or two they get away with it. Of course if they have little credibility it doesn't get them very far anyway. Glen, thank you so much for your thoughtfulness. Of late so many people have been so supportive and have offered to do so many things for me that I get a little overwhelmed. I'm not used to people being nice and so caring I don't really know how to respond to it. I received a phone call from my girlfriend who lives on Whidbey Island in Washington. We've been friends for more than twenty years along with another friend who lives near Redding. Every one of us has had cancer of different types and she knew exactly what to say to get me out of the funky mood I was in. And yesterday a woman who used to be my boss said she wanted to be my cancer buddy because she's been there too. I don't know if your mother enjoyed the same, but it truly let's you know there are so many good people in the world. These days out of everywhere but Africa so far, messages of love, hope and prayers are pouring in and I am so appreciative. My surgery is scheduled for Friday, May 12th in Petaluma and I'll be so glad when it's over. But I know now that a lot of hearts will go there with me.
