Hi Pat. If you remember the last time we were in that area I had pointed out to what I thought might be a pressure ridge near your friends home. If indeed that is correct then you don’t need a quake on the RCF to sustain a high amount of damage in the area. There may be a blind fault along the base of the hills where your friend’s home is. Most likely in the area of the small stream we crossed over.

The most recent quake near Rohnert Park is a very good indication that there is stress in the area. The magnitude of that quake along with the aftershocks was insufficient to release any stress of any kind. We would need a whole bunch more, and I do mean a whole bunch more to have any affect on stress for that area.

The next time we go to that area I would like to find the land owners and see if they would let us do a little four wheeling towards the north of that there. I don’t know that we would find anything that would indicate the potential for that area, but it could still prove interesting. Just from what I have seen at the surface of your chosen spot indicates that in the past there was a large quake in that area. Just from the way the surface along the ridges is twisted and the number of slides there does indicate that the ground is unstable and had been pushed up rather violently in the past. Of course the thing we have to remember is that with the type of soil to be found in the area there are going to be slides so this has to be taken into consideration. Take Care…Don in creepy town.
