No, Russell, it is not you. You have been gracious, polite and, most of all, logical.

I have followed this thread with interest because I, too, have a fundamental problem with making an association between ear tones and coming earthquakes. Who ever came up with the notion that ear tones can be related to impending earthquakes? It's a real stretch. Why not say that they are signals from outer space, maybe intelligent life trying to get in touch with us? Or maybe a long-dead relative trying to get in touch with us from the "beyond"? Or even, like Russell said, the sound of hardening jell-o? How did they (the ear tone believers) ever jump from x equates to y?

I believe that the sudden ear tones that I hear from time to time are from some physiological source, like a sudden change in blood pressure or something similar occurring within my body -- certainly not something from deep within the earth, and not something from deep outer space.

BTW, Petra, you never did answer Russell's question. I too would like to know how the "precise measurements" that you allude to are calculated.

Petra, I'm not trying to make this "Let's-pick-on-Petra day." You seem to have so much time and energy. And you seem to be a fairly intelligent person (although your arguments are definitely illogical and do ramble on in circles). Why waste your talents and your time pursuing a vague supposition that has no grounding whatsoever in fact? A true scientist would be able to present some factual evidence, not some ethereal notions.

I am not trying to be unkind. I am only attempting to clarify the obvious: ear tones as earthquakes predictors is a hard sell.

Maybe you could answer this: who ever came up with this idea in the first place? Based on what? Did someone at some time have an ear tone and then an earthquake coincidentally occurred? The cause and effect relationship and, voila, they had a "Eureka moment?" That's rather like: I wash the car and then
it rains. Did my washing the car make the rain occur?

I think the ear-tone-ergo-earthquake theory needs a little rethinking.
