Re: Has everyone seen this?

Hi Roger,

They have been out for awhile, so yes, I've seen that.

You know though there seems to be quite a bit more information out there today than there was years ago; somehow people don't want to remember how bad things can get. I suppose it's natural and especially if it has been a long time since the last deadly earthquake.

Some people never ever recover after an earthquake or other natural disasters and they forget the vividness of what happens at time. If they could remember what its like to stand in line for hours waiting for a couple of gallons of water or what can happen when a freeway traps victims with 9 inches of space and no one can hear them yelling; its not a pretty picture. It's real though. And I would hate to think one has to show so many pictures of these kinds of events to motivate them to get with it, but that's about what it takes.

Thanks to the article I posted earlier we now know that FEMA might give up to $150,000 in grant money, though we don't know how many grants they have available. For some who might have purchased earthquake insurance and can qualify for those grants, there remains the possibility of rebuilding versus walking away bankrupt and never owning a home again. And the most affected group would be near retirees whose homes are their nest egg for retirement. For them recovery may be totally out of the question. Sometimes there are answers; but you have to get a little creative in finding the solutions.

Petra
