Pucker Up & Blow For EQ Survival |
Hi All, I just thought I would mention that the new whistles for earthquake survival program is off and running. In one week we have $1,000 on the table which will purchase 4,000 whistles. I'm currently awaiting word from Mayor Gavin Newsoms office to determine I can have a moment at the conclusion of his program to present him with his own personal whistle. I've asked him to finish the Memorial at Lotta's Fountain on an upswing with many blowing for future earthquake survivors, as they close the 100th anniversary of the 1906 catastrophe. While we can't change the past, we can make room for more to survive in the future. Hopefully, when digging people out of the rubble, perhaps they can find them faster if they can alert their rescuers as to their locations rather than waiting for the sniffer dogs to find them cold, alone and silent. One the PSA front we are seeking bids to determine how much bang we can get for the buck. It appears the radio spots are easier to do and a little less costly, so those will roll out first. And in the background my new earthquake web site is under construction and going along well. I'll be posting the results of the campaign to gather dollars for whistles there and I think I will develop a contest for the whistle program and let people guess when certain goals are met and provide gas cards to the winners along the way. And of course I can hope they will take a minute or two to learn a little earthquake safety when they drop by. For the next three days or nights mother nature seems to want to give us a dusting of snow and that should prove interesting. Most people around here haven't got a clue on how to drive in the fluffy white, so I suspect I'll be quite busy after that. Life on all four burners can be interesting, but always rewarding if you do what you love the most. Petra
