Hi All,

Let's give Tom Jordan a big round of applause. He received the funding he needed for his new Earthquake Prediction Collaborary. One just never knows how good things can get. I'm thrilled! Petra

SoCal earthquake center receives $1.2 million in funding

LOS ANGELES The Southern California Earthquake Center has received one-point-two-million dollars to develop a program that will study quake predictability.

The chief scientist at the U-S Geological Survey in Pasadena says the program will aim to determine which current earthquake model has predictive capabilities.

The center will also use the grant by the W-M Keck Foundation to set standards of tremor prediction experiments, in which scientists carry out research under controlled conditions.

The earthquake center's director says researchers will start off by conducting experiments using past quake data, and eventually use those models to forecast quakes.

The 15-year-old center is headquartered at the University of Southern California.
