I've been searching for years for a way to make that object you could hold in your hands.

It could be done with a casting resin clear enough that you could see thru a 6" block of it. The sort of stuff you see with things embedded in it.

You would pour a 1/8" layer of it, drop in colored beads representing quakes, let it harden and add another layer. Layers representing depth.

Ideally the whole process would be computer controlled. It's the opposite to the process used to make 3D models.
