Re: Where are all the quakes going?

Hi Robert. The quakes are taking a Christmas break. They need a holiday now and then.

One of the things I have learned over the years is that the number of quakes on the USGS map does not give an indication that a major quake is going to occur anytime soon.

One of the things I look for are areas along a fault that are quiet and have been quiet for a long period of time (years). One such area is the segment of the Rodgers Creek fault between Petaluma and the San Pablo Bay. Quakes just don’t occur there. There was a small swarm of quakes in Dec. of 1981 near the northern end of the quiet segment, but nothing ever came of that.

Another area is the segment of the San Andreas fault between Portola Valley and the Peninsula. The segment of the San Andreas fault where the Loma Prieta quake occurred was one such area. Take Care…Don in creepy town
