Hi Don, A few weeks before this earthquake occurred I was going up to my earthquake study area several times a week and I started to notice something unusual. When was was within 3 miles of it I got this feeling like I was wearing a motorcycle helmet that fit too snugly on my head. At the time I never wore a hat, so it was odd. But the closer I got to my study area the feeling would go away. I'd drive north and go around Crane Canyon Road and I could feel it there too, but once I reached Bennett Valley Road the feeling was gone. This is odd because when I got to Bennett Valley Road I was within two miles of where the earthquake occurred. Finally I felt I "knew" something was going to happen and I issued a prediction for this earthquake 3 days before thinking it was going to be a 4.5. At the time I was taking my geology course at SSU and I e-mailed it to my professor. He said earthquakes could not be predicted, but he allowed me to share the results of the prediction with the class. I missed it of course because I was .3 over. 1999/09/22 22:27:13.11 38.3950 -122.6342 9.79 4.20 ML 61 47 14 0.12 NC 21054737 Sometimes anamalies occur before earthquakes and in this case it seems that at a given radius around the area the magnetics changed and I could literally feel them. I so wished I had some kind of instrument to explain this phenomena, but I didn't. And I so hated that I was able to predict this rare event and receive no credit for it. In the big picture does .3 plus or minus mean anything if it's rare? Not really. Today I want the equipment to be there to measure whatever it was I felt and then there can be no denying there are precursors in some cases for some earthquakes. And as for Santa Rosa, there's a hum in the area and I don't know what that means, but one day I think we might know. Today I carefully document it, just for the record. Petra
