Glen..I think most scientists working on California faults would agree with you that the SAF near Palm Springs is something to worry about...what with it having been 300 years or whatever for the part south of there to break. The San Andreas continues along the east side of the Salton Sea where some maps show it ending...but it does not really end...its displacement continues through the Brawley Seismic zone...
Let us know in some detail if you think you see something unusual in Sumatra area (is that Padang?). If you do notice something I may then suggest that you, or you and Roger, do some graphs...so we can better see if it is real or imagined....

OK, got my Christmas shopping done, don't feel like wrapping...am going to work on southern Hosgri fault representation...in case my daughter wants to skate or ski or whatever next week...
