The San Andreas has a creeping section that separates what failed in 1857 from that part that failed in 1906. It does not accumulate enough strain to support a large rupture...so if both sections were to go, it is perhaps more likelu that one section would trigger the other rather than rupturing all the way through....otherwise, good point.
