Just thought I'd mention that my past experiences with ants were before the Northridge and Ridgecrest quakes. In each case they were going after the food. With the Ridgecrest quakes, we only had 2 occurrences of them coming into the house going after some chips in one of our upstairs rooms where Ridgecrest is about 140 miles away. Before Northridge, it was our downstairs kitchen and they kept coming for a period of about 2 1/2 weeks, again going for food with the Northridge event being about 15 miles way. We didn't have any problems with them prior to either Landers or Hector. The interesting thing about this is that I also didn't record any signals from Hector (I wasn't into eq prediction when Landers occurred). So it would seem that for some reason I'm blind to that area with my primary which may also be the same reason that kept the ants from sensing it as well in my area. I did get ant reports for several weeks prior to Hector from the Newport Beach area which is about 75 miles south of me. Based on what you've reported so far, I'd think that within 150 miles of Petaluma, an M5+ quake could be expected over the next 30 days. That may be the reason that you're not sensing it where you sense it within a few days of the quake. --Dennis
