Re: infrasound is just long-period sound

John,

You know about the research at Cholame and how the sounds are detected in one place and yet the earthquakes arrive in a different place, miles away? The sounds ear tone people hear can't be heard for a 3.0 or greater quake when they are close. The smallest earthquake I've heard is a 1.6 about 10-12 miles away, yet I can't hear a 4.0 at the Geysers. The sound seems to travel away from the fault, not up. Maybe if they are looking for precursors to Parkfield they should look at instruments 20 miles or more away from there.

I'm not sure on the frequency issue, I think that's something yet to be examined.

I know you will be very busy this week with your work and meeting with people who are important to your work and so forth, so I hope all goes well and that you enjoy your visit to the city, though it's anything but warm. The weather of late has been anything but enjoyable. Shades of Seattle.

If you have more questions they have to be tabled until Tuesday evening at least. I'm hosting the next edition of L.A.F. at my house tomorrow evening and I will be enjoying being a pleasant hostess and being with other people who meet once a month to discuss being successful. I purchased a nice array of wine today from Chile, South America and Australia and I can't wait to taste test them.

In the midst of these conversations I have shopped, wrapped, made homemade fudge, cleaned, cooked dinner for tomorrow night and put out all of my Christmas decorations. And when I wasn't doing that I was focusing my attention of how to write an outline pre-proposal and determining what information I was going to need to write it. I have to have it done in two weeks.

I'll issue a toast to you tomorrow evening for "the man most likely to...."
