For Chris. Palos Verdes Fault

Hi Chris. Thanks for bringing the Palos Verdes fault up. After looking at the area it covers and what its potential is I don’t think I would want to be in the area when it lets go. Take Care…Don in creepy town

“The Palos Verdes Fault has one of the fastest slip-rates of the faults in the Los Angeles basin (Peterson and Wesnousky, 1994; McNeilan et al., 1996). It threatens the western Los Angeles area, with potential for earthquakes up to moment magnitude (Mw) 7.4 (McNeilan et al., 1996).”

“Three-dimensional simulations of earthquakes (Olsen and Archuleta, 1996) show that a Mw 6.75 earthquake on the Palos Verdes fault would create about 90 seconds of severe ground motion in the densely populated Los Angeles basin, comparable to the Mw 6.7 Northridge earthquake of 1994, which caused extensive damage.”
