Re: Long Beach Insurance

When I moved into the house in Long Beach, as a part of the sale there is an Inspector that comes out and looks at things.. I specifically asked is the house was bolted to the foundation - and it is... The water heater is strapped, the gas line has an automatic earthquake shut-off valve.. some of the heavier items are strapped in place (TV and such) - the collectable plates hanging on the walls have earthquake proof picture hangers... stuff like that. and we do have the neighborhood militia if it becomes needed..but I like to think it won't be required.

I've enough dry cat food to feed the entire neighborhood of cats... (I normally don't feed dry, but have won this food at shows and thought it was good to keep around for emergencies)

I can look around and easily see a bunch of other things that could be done - bookshelves attached to walls, a more appropriate place for the emergency stuff, rotation of emergency foods, still need a crowbar - I thought that was a good idea that I heard somewhere -

The house in Monarch Beach is on a slab - I recently had new carpeting put in - there are some rather large cracks in the foundation.. the large mirrors in the bathrooms had dropped on one side, a few of the doors have needed adjustment - they just don't quite hang straight. Yesterday I noticed a spot of daylight coming into one of the walls in the garage.. so I went out and looked - where the stucco meets some wood - there's a separation... there are occasional little quakes down there.. it's supposedly not subject to liquefaction or landslide (so say the maps), but it is on a bit of a hill... so there's been a bit of shifting going on - it looks like one side has raised a tad.. it was built in 1970, so you'de expect some shifting along the way.

Know anything about the San Joaquin Hills thrust?
