Oddly enough, I have a semi-funny story about this.

Last night I was at a televised meeting of the Planning Commission on which I sit (they were hard up for members?). Anyway, I described this little neighborhood of four houses with landscaping in the middle of a big storage facility, trailer park and covered industrial greenhouses, as a "little jewel of a place with hundred year old houses moved to save them from Freeway construction about 75 years ago."

Some of the "guys" (I am the only woman on the commission) were being a bit sarcastic about the "little jewel" description. I promptly lost my professional demeanor, and asked if they wished me to describe this site as a "Set of allochthonous vintage structures which migrated here during the very late Holocene in a north/northwest pattern to their present site on unconsolidated alluvium with authochthonous vegetation and now present a pleasing euhedral conformance to the ocular sense."

Hehe that shut 'em up. Guess my geology degree was good for something!
