Oh boy...I should have kept my mouth shut, but here goes..

A prediction has to name a particular place, time and magnitude. A projection has more latitude in all of the above. (Forget forecast) If I think there will be seismic activity in an area within a week, I would call that a "prediction".
If I think there will be an 8+ quake in Sumatra in the next six months, I would call that a projection. It is a semantical difference relating to time. A projection is a prediction, and a prediction is a projection, but the difference is the timescape.
There was a huge arguement over on syzygy board a number of months ago about all this. I was unable to predict or project the winner of the arguement.
