Re: Earthquake Cloud? |
Hi Canary. Your posts have interested me. Regarding Shou's work, there was a heated discussion a few months ago on the old Berkland board. On Shou's site he states what some of his problems are (too much time lapse between photos, etc) and my opinion was that those various problems should be solved, to see what can be done with satellite views of clouds. I was surprised to learn that a lot of past cloud data has been thrown away. For me the pictures are not defined enough, and like Chris, I often cannot see what is supposed to be the "earthquake cloud". Shou should provide diagrams and explanations with the pictures. The EQ clouds I have personally seen were the tornado-like kind with "antennae" sticking out -- twisting ferociously and so bizarre you could not miss them. These indicated a quake shortly afterwards with the tornado being over the epicenter (referring to the 1995 7M Kobe, Japan quake and aftershocks). The other kinds of clouds (elongated, flowing, etc) are harder for me to recognize or understand. The vertical clouds we saw in 1995 would be hard to spot from a satellite, perhaps.
