Hi Todd. They did indeed do a good job, but in this instance they were the observers. They weren’t the ones in the plane. They had a little time to figure out what they were going to do although in all probability the plans were already in place. They just had to implement them.

When the next quake strikes they could be victims just like everyone else. They could be in their building when the quake strikes and the building could come crashing down around their ears. They could be trapped in the same way as those they are suppose to rescue.

No one is immune to the wrath of an earthquake just as no one was immune to a hurricane named Katrina. The police and fire personnel were helpless. In most cases they could do nothing more then stand by and watch as chaos unfolded around them. People had better be prepared to care for themselves for at least 5 days.

The pilot did indeed do a very good job in getting the plane down safely. I would be willing to bet he has made that kind of landing more times then he can remember. Every 6 months they spend a week in the simulator practicing for just such an event. Most pilots will tell you that flying is a piece of cake. It’s the simulator that makes a nervous wreck out of you. Take Care…Don in creepy town
