preparedness (kinda long)

I made one of the last major purchases that I needed for the family disaster kit: a camp stove and fuel for it. (In a major quake the barbeque grill would end up in the pool) Now I can stock up on canned goods without worrying how I'm going to improvise a grill for them.

Here's what I have:
A gas shuttoff wrench hanging by the patio door closest to the meter. A bag of them in the garage from a realtor friend of Gary's who suggested them as thank-yous for buyers.
First Aid Kit, including a field surgery kit that my mom gave me.
20 gallons of water in the garage
5 gallons in the bedroom closet
Camp stove in the bedroom closet
Stove fuel under the bathroom sink (It will be moved into the closet when I get a crush-resistant box) because the garage gets extremely hot in the desert summer.
Ramen noodles: a box in the kitchen
At least 30 days worth of prescription medicines for Gary: Medco's mail order is wonderful. They send a three month supply at once. If you have their mail order available to you, use it. :)
My camping gear: a huge tent, a small all season tent for two people, two sleeping bags, a queen size air mattress, cast iron kettle and tripod, random feastgear, a lantern.
Numerous sharp and pointy weapons that are in places where they won't fall on me or Gary but can be grabbed easily.
quake putty and museum wax
2 small radios that can be solar, hand crank, or battery powered.

Freebie stuff for winter quakes: The lemon tree, tangerine tree and grapefruit tree in the backyard. They are going nuts with fruit this year.

ALso:
Arrangements with a friend to camp in their backyard if we need to evacuate.
Out of state contacts: my mom, his aunt.

What I need to get:
More water stashed in the house
Canned stuff
Plastic sheeting and duct tape (for broken windows)
larger cat crates
Another rubbermaid tub with lid to hold more cat food
Small kit for each car that includes a gas wrench and water
I wish that I could find a small solar generator to run Gary's CPAP machine.

My friend suggested a pistol or shotgun. If I decide to purchase one I need to find the local gun club first so that I can refresh my shooting skills. I have not made a final decision on it yet.

Last, but not least, I need to move my liquor collection to a floor level cabinet. Having my bottle of Crested Ten break would be tragic. ;)

Anyway, that's my list. It's not complete, and it doesn't include the candles and candle holders that I have packed in drawers.
