It's fun to be a scientist. One figures things out, documents them, then can tell people about them. If it is of interest to the general public, one can talk to the press. Teaching is work but can be gratifying. Most all the scientists I know work more than 40 hours a week, and we complain all the time, but wouldn't do it if we didn't enjoy much of it.

Dry cleaners at work? We generally can water our own plants and don't care much how we dress unless we're meeting bureaucrats that day (which unfortunately is most days for me). And where does the idea we're loners come from? A few are, most are not, like most professions. It is hard to thrive in science without extensive communications.

Wouldn't mind the chocolates, however.
