OK, now we have expressed opinions as to what should be done. Now we can express opinions on what should be done given that they are not going to abandon all of New Orleans. Biloxi and Gulfport etc are easier to abandon...but I doubt that will happen either...but the state of Missippi certainly has to change the law that casinos must be floating...these could be moved inland.

Below is part of an email that I sent this AM:

One thing that I was thinking about the last couple of days...and you might not be aware of, is the nature of part of the higher part of the city (OK, less low part of the city) near the 2 places that I lived...around the Garden district, and uptown, around Tulane and Audubon Park. That is, the Garden District is full of of mansions with white people in them, surrounded by black areas...that we considered dangerous. The French quarter has some of the most notorious projects nearby. I lived in 2 different mixed areas. If they decide to abandon lower areas of the city, the question is whether these will be predominantly black areas...and that it will look like many (10s? 100s) of billions of $ will be used to protect white areas of the city with new dikes. This may not actually be the case....some of the lowest areas are near the lake and may be white. It would be interesting to look at a demographic map.
