seafloor

I'm at work in California by between the beach and the lagoon...headed to sea in a couple days for work...first time since 1996....going to do some coring related to past climates over the last 1/2 million years...we 3 (CN, SH) have been doing a lot of work the last year interpreting the reflections under Santa Barbara basin...to locate the cores. We will core an active anticline that is forming as it absorbs the slip on the mostly, but not entirely, blind Oak Ridge fault. I'm posting while a 3D program is making a surface ontop of 1 million XYZ points (depth to seafloor). I tried to do 2 million, and crashed the program, even though the computer I am working on has parallel processors, Xeon chips, 4 gigs ram. It should be at least 10s of times faster than the 4 year old laptop I use when I am in suburbia...hey...it's done...but did not work...this is like watching grass grow...I need a beer...I am doing this so that we can survey at the end of the cruise an active fault that next to no one knows exists....
far offshore..
Chris
