Is there scandalous romance in geophysics?

Hi All,

I’ve been saving this story for a long time and now seems like a good time to share it. (I’ll blame it on Cathryn.) I hate to admit it, but like most women I’m curious to know things that most men probably could care less about. And to that end on my first trip round the AGU opportunity presented itself at the Awards Dinner. I had to ask this gorgeous scientist who sat next to me if he knew about any scandalous affairs he might indulge with me. He looked at me and said "they are sitting across the table." Boy, I was in luck that night. There they were in flesh and blood before me. Wow, the story of the century right there!

Of course I’d never tell you their names, but they were visiting from down-under which seems rather fitting right now. Honestly, though he was dressed terrifically, he looked a lot like the man who played the roll of Dr. Zorba in Dr. Casey M.D. That full head of gray locks that stood out nice and round like an afro and she, well, she was an exquisite looking woman. She was from Checoslovakia. Small boned, petite, beautiful brown hair and I could see what he saw in her, but as to what she saw in him, well, maybe he had hidden attitudes.

Apparently he divorced his wife to be with this beautiful woman. She too was a scientist, though I’m not sure what field she was in. But maybe, the field of dreams.

The gorgeous scientist and I took the elevator to our rooms that night….but we were a floor apart. I haven’t a clue as to who he was. I could only read his first name on his badge, so he’s Dr. Peter Something. That too seems so appropriate. At least he was worthy of a dream or two as well.
