Hi Roger. Boy you really must be bored. I think however you could have posted till the cows came home and you would be no further ahead then you are now. They only want to hear what they want to hear. Everything else is irrelevant. They have a hero so let them have their day.

I’m looking at acoustic emission (AE) as a tool for earthquake prediction. I’m in contact with a person from Physical Acoustics Corporation. He is going to check the data they have and see if they have done anything along the lines of listening for earthquakes. As of right now it doesn’t look to promising, as you have to have the sensor near the same level as the earthquake. In other words you have to know where the quake is going to occur and how deep it will be. You would then have to drill a well at least a couple of miles deep and close to where it will occur. I know Japan was doing some work using AE, but I have never seen the results of the research.

The surrounding earth absorbs the sound so the range is limited. Where they have been having some excellent results with it are in the mines is South Africa. However it isn’t earthquakes that they are looking for it is rock bursts. Some of them can let go with the energy of an M=5.0 quake and in doing so can kill people as well as closing the mine.

I may not learn anything useful, but it keeps me off the streets at night. Take Care…Don in creepy town
