Hi Petra. There are 5 unnamed faults about 5 to 15 miles west of the coastline at Fort Ross. There are 8 more unnamed faults about 20 to 30 miles west of the coastline. The furthest one to the west is shown as a Paleo (ancient, prehistoric) thrust fault. All of the faults are NW/SE trending. Three of the 5 faults closest to the coastline show the down throw side to be to the west. One is to the east and one has no indication. This is only a guess, but the two quakes may have occurred on the fault closest to the coastline. That fault shows evidence of displacement during late Quaternary (2 million years) time. Late could be from 10,000 years ago to present time, but don’t hold me to that. There haven’t been many quakes recorded beyond 20 miles. That doesn’t mean any haven’t occurred. Just that they haven’t been recorded. Looks like the “coastal shove” is still on. Take Care…Don in creepy town
