Hi Petra,

Subject: Re: New Release - When the Mississippi Ran Backwards

The fictionalized account of the Lewis and Clark expedition, "Sacajawea",
described these New Madrid earthquakes in some detail and how they
affected the lead character, from her perspective. Sacajawea was a female
indian guide on the trip. --A fascinating book, by the way (and the first
time I'd heard of those massive quakes.)

Historically speaking, at least two years following the New Madrid jolts
were of high seismological unrest throughout the continent.

IF I'm remembering correctly, California suffered at least one major quake
early in 1812 -- Have always felt that was probably in response to the
New Madrid jolts.

I also read an historical account of Tecumsah's prediction, which (in that book at least) was more descriptive and, (don't quote me on this) provided some kind of a time frame, too.

Interesting stuff!

Adrienne
