That's why we need an earthquake seismologist posting....I thought that the general Mogi donut concept had been largely (but not completely?) discredited. John Vidale may have posted here on that once. I'm not sure where the M5.2 occurred...but have vague recollection that it was on San Clemente fault....a big, long, active fault that is certainly capable of larger than a M5.2....as are many other offshore faults. Maybe the 5.2 stressed adjoining parts of the fault a little....so maybe choosing that area is not a bad idea.....but I think the chances are only a tiny bit higher than in various other offshore areas..
