It's called Stress Relief. These earthquakes relieved the stress on the faults and interestingly for 7 years the creep on the Hayward fault went backwards.

I'm sure you are aware the stress is back and they are saying all of the Bay Area faults are stress loaded. We could virtually have a 6.5 quake on any one of them, at any time. Did you see the program produced by KRON TV called "Where the Fault Lies?" They made it abundantly clear we had better get out stuff together. There is a new program coming out on 5/4 at 10PM on KRON called "?The Next Great Quake" (or The Next Big Quake).

And what was the first topic on the SSA's Tahoe conference this year? Earthquake Safety. Do you think they are trying to tell us something?
