The Rhine graben is an extive rift (stretching structure) that I think is buried beneath (southern) Netherlands. It and adjoining areas is the source of a lot of the quakes in western Germany...maybe eastern edge of France....part of Switzerland. I lived in the Hague for a year and visited my wife there the year before and after (no, I'm not a war criminal)
