(highest plume)

CHIKURACHKI Kurile Islands, Russia 50.325°N, 155.458°E; summit elev. 1,816 m (low)
during 4-5 April weak fumarolic activity, ash deposits covering the WNW slope of the volcano

KARYMSKY Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia 54.05°N, 159.43°E; summit elev. 1,536 m (low)
during 1-8 April seismicity above background levels, ash deposits extending ~15 km SW on 2 April

KLIUCHEVSKOI Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia 56.06°N, 160.64°E; summit elev. 4,835 m (5.8 km)
seismic activity above background levels during 1-8 April, ash-and-gas plumes to 5.8 km

SHIVELUCH Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia 56.653°N, 161.360°E; summit elev. 3,283 m (3.5 km)
during 1-8 April intensive growth of the new extrusion at the W part of lava dome, the eastern and western parts of the lava dome becoming nearly level; gas-and-steam plumes to ~1 km above the 2.5-km-high lava dome

ST. HELENS Washington, USA 46.20°N, 122.18°W; summit elev. 2,549 m (low)
during 6-11 April growth of the new lava dome continuing, accompanied by low rates of seismicity, low emissions of steam and volcanic gases, and minor production of ash; on 6 April the smooth whaleback-shaped portion of the growing lava dome broken by numerous fractures, and the edges crumbled greatly, several deep gashes on the E, N, and W sides with frequent rockfalls and accompanying ash clouds, on 10 April the new dome continuing to fracture and spread laterally, with the dome's summit dropping by a few tens of meters during the previous 2-3 weeks, except for isolated high-standing remnants; GPS receiver 200 m N of the new dome creeping steadily NNW about 10 cm per day; new lava continuing

Equatorial Ash and Gas Eruptions at less than 23°N or S

ANATAHAN Mariana Islands, central Pacific Ocean 16.35°N, 145.67°E; summit elev. 788 m (2.7 km)
activity decreasing after an eruption beginning 5 April at 1700 producing an ash plume to the highest altitude in recorded history at the volcano, ~15.2 km; during 7-11 April seismicity at very low levels, near background; on the 11th a steam-and-ash plume rising to ~2.7 km and drifting ~280 km WSW

CANLAON Philippines 10.41°N, 123.13°E; summit elev. 2,435 m (2.5 km)
a low-energy ash emission on 7 April at 0629 generating a cloud to a height of ~2.5 km, slowly drifting SW, with only the crater and upper SW slopes of the volcano affected

COLIMA western México 19.514°N,103.62°W; summit elev. ~3,850 m (9.1 km)

SPECIAL NOTE

Krakatau: Three Volcanoes Coalesing

From this weeks GVN/USGS Weekly Report

"Background. Renowned Krakatau volcano lies in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra. Collapse of the ancestral Krakatau edifice, perhaps in 416 AD, resulted in a 7-km-wide caldera. Remnants of this volcano formed Verlaten and Lang Islands; subsequently Rakata, Danan, and Perbuwatan volcanoes were formed, coalescing to create the pre-1883 Krakatau Island. Caldera collapse during the catastrophic 1883 eruption destroyed Danan and Perbuwatan volcanoes, and left only a remnant of Rakata volcano. The post-collapse cone of Anak Krakatau (Child of Krakatau), constructed within the 1883 caldera at a point between the former cones of Danan and Perbuwatan, has been the site of frequent eruptions since 1927."
