I am running a Back-up APC 500 on my computer. It has a somewhat unnerving little ring when the system has a power glitch.

I live about in as much of a wilderness of an area as anyone...Have even written a small booklet on how to survive with the cougars and coyotes at 3500 feet in the Kettle Range. Noticed one of you was from Canada...I am only 10 miles S of the border near Grand Forks BC.

I have had very few glitches since Bob Fryer bought me this a year or so ago....I would say 1 per month. No increase here in that area. My biggest problem is gophers eating their way through #2 underground:-)

Here is something you all might find interesting. About 2 months ago my wife and I were watching TV early in the morning after sunrise... We both heard a loud snap...like a party favor but obviously electrical in nature...It appeared to come from nowhere and everywhere at the same time. Neither my wife nor I could figure what happened. It wasn't loud.

About 5-10 minutes later the house shook for about 10-15 seconds. Quake? I called Canadian Geology and they said no but made record of it. We have little recording devices in this area for mini-Q's....but it was not a rockslide...I know it was a quake which made us think about the noise prior.

Our area is over a very geologic active area. Not recent EQ active...yet active non-the-less... we have underneath us...crystal nodes as big as houses. We also are a major mining area for gold and elements used in the nuclear industry. My thought about the snap was piezo in nature, preceeding the shaking...I'm almost dead certain on this...but with neighbors being miles apart, there is little real info to work with.

This is about the best and most informative thread I have seen in a long time! And it has certainly given me the dynamic to get back into an area which has been on back burner for years!
