I'd say Hector had very little effect - Hector did trigger quakes south of Lavic lakes area (in the Salton Sea area)

What I'd say has had a bit more effect was the Ridgecrest swarm of a couple weeks ago..

When you say: The answers I got ranged from “Don’t worry about it” to “It’s a time
bomb waiting to go off and could do it without any warning” I figure the truth is somewhere in between those two extremes and closer to that there will be some warnings.

Both answers are right - it depends on where the event will be located - If its in the current area of quake activity(McGee area), there should be enough warning and a volcanic event there will not really do any damage to humans and property, but rather would be an interesting research project.

On the other hand - if there is a large (5+) quake on the fault that runs along the southern side of the caldera, it could be enough movement to put pressure on Mammoth Mountain and squeeze the mountain like a pimple, causing a destructive eruption. In this case it would cause a lot of damamge to humans and property.

So.....Activity has diminished quite a bit over the last 2 years. No one really knows what or when an event will occur.
