Thanks for your knowledgable comments. The distance calculation began when measuring the Nisqually 2001 earthquake. We discovered it then and applied it a number of times after to see if it worked repeatedly and it has. I can't explain why it does though. The distance calculater I use to determine straight line distance to epicenters is in miles not kilometers, which is normal in the US.

The VAN group had a problem with some scientists in regard to how they issued their predictions. They sent them by telegram at the time so they could document the predictions, but since they sent them to their own team that was deemed unacceptable.

Today a similar problem exists in sending e-mail predictions to interested parties. That is why this message board proves valuable. It is put before people who may not have an interest, it cannot be changed by posters and the archives are invaluable. And our moderator Canie, is flexible, yet does not let matters get out of hand.
