Santa Barbara almost cut off by land

I'm in Santa Barbara and luckily I did not take the offered $250 travel voucher on the full flight from L.A. because Santa Barbara is almost cut-off from anywhere by land. I would have taken the travel voucher and rented a car and driven, but it turns out route 101 and other roads are closed, and the only way is highway 5 into the central valley, cut back east to Paso Robles, then south on 101....maybe a 6 hour drive if no traffic...compared to 2 by direct route...except highway 5 will have problems if it snows at the pass.

Big landslide at La Conchita helped close route 101...caught on video...killed some people. These slides are going to continue even if it stops raining (which it is supposed to do). Slides could continue for months...I'm told this happened a couple decades ago. A M6 earthquake in the Carpinteria-Ventura area would be pretty ugly, closure of route 101-wise...
