Vibrations From The Sumatra Quake

Hi All. Maybe John and Chris have some thoughts on this. If not then I would like to present my own and then let them correct me.

“Scientists in Canberra say they are continuing to record unusual vibrations two weeks after the earthquake that shook the Indian Ocean and triggered the devastating Boxing Day tsunamis in Asia.

“Dr Herb McQueen from the Australian National University (ANU) says a gravity meter is still detecting ringing from the rare seismic event.”

“Dr McQueen says the data is being studied by scientists across the world.”

"Normally a reasonably large earthquake will continue reverberating for a couple of days on our charts, but this one has been going steadily for the last 12 to 13 days and shows no signs of letting up actually," he said.”

"There's still a measurable oscillation."

Because the earth’s rotation speed is greater at the equator then it is at the poles the earth expands a little bit at the equator. It could be said that if things weren’t nailed down they could be thrown off into space. Anyway gravity keeps things from flying off into space while at the same time centrifugal force keeps things from being pulled down into the earth. Sort of a happy balance.

Because of the energy released from the quake and everything sort of being shoved around by the quake things are still looking for a new home and it is this fight between centrifugal force and gravity that keeps the place vibrating. After all the earths rotation was increased by about 3millioth of second. Not very fast overall, but I don’t thing the earths magnetic field in the area is in to good of shape right now. It could be that the sudden increase in the rotational speed has given it a slight edge over gravity.

It could also be that the mass in the area has been moved and the earth needs more time to compensate for that change. Ever see what happens to the turbine wheel on a jet engine when the mass has been changed by a few grams. It ain’t pretty. It can cut the engine in half. Take Care…Don in creepy town
