Donald, Canie, Yes, I remember that global burst of quakes in June 2000. I think Lowell said at the time that there had been a large solar flare or magnetic storm (I forget which or how large). That burst managed to make me really think that solar activity could trigger quakes. But, since then, I have not seen any obvious relation, and Roger's correlations really made it look like the flares do not trigger M5+s....But, I do think the quakes were triggering each other (or the M7.9 set off some of the others). With a 9.0, we might expect to see something. Might be worth a look at the 1960 M9.5 Chile quake and the M9.2 1964 Alaska quake...to see if there was increased global activity for M>5 the next week. I don't think that smaller global quakes have been posted on NEIC yet for the weekend and holiday...but the M4+ at geysers may be of interest... although one quake like that does not mean anything....but, someone might want to look at small quakes in places over large magma chambers (Long Valley, Yellowstone) and see if there is an increase, and if there is, to see if the increase is periodic and might match the free oscillations of the earth.
