Model Airplane For MSH Monitoring

Hi All,

I was reading the KING-5 news this morning from Seattle and today its time to bring some toys to work.

[Researchers are hoping to use an unmanned craft called the Silver Fox to get up close and personal with Mount St. Helens. They want the drone to fly over the volcano Tuesday and take measurements from the crater. The Silver Fox is just five feet long and weighs a mere 22 pounds.

“We’re very hopeful this will give us a new eye on this volcano that is far safer than putting a human being at risk,” USGS spokeswoman Stephanie Hanna said. ]

I'm really curious as to how they are going to launch the plane considering its a long way from anywhere and most model airplanes don't have the ability to fly at great distances from the operator. Sounds like a fun way to do research. Wish I could see it.
