To All Animal Watchers: For some three weeks befor the 1994 Northridge Quake, the children in our school began noticing unusual behavior in there pets. Often outside cats wanted in and would hide. Others would run around, and some would seek warm beds at night, close to people which was not normal for them. Dogs groweled at the ground or would dig in a spot seemingly looking for something. Some would bark at the holes they dug. Wild animals would come into the populated areas and seem disoriented, not just hungry or thirsty. For my students to notice and comment on strange pet behavior was unusual in its self. Also many students had mild flu like symptoms which would come and go quickly. Our horses would not eat in the barn or come in, eat a bite or two, and go out for a few minutes. There were more loose dogs the week before and many more dogs and cats runover in the street. A noticable number compared to other times. Unless there are dramatic weather changes or some new and noisy activity in your neighborhood, be safe and move things off the selves. Better safe than surprised in the middle of the night with a rumble and a crash! Besides, it makes a great story either way!! Bob in Woodland Hills
