AGU, evacuations

Petra,Yes, I am going to AGU-San Francisco for the first time in 3 years...I wnet to the AGU in Nice France April 2003....My poster, and the ones that I am co-author on, are all related to climate.....but of course there is a little structure and stratigraphy involved (OK, a lot of stratigraphy).

The evacuation stuff is interesting....probably nothing serious will happen in New Orleans, although it is a close call. Yahoo.com just had a story on poor people in New Orleans who cannot evacuate...no cars. odds are they live in a lower area also. Let's say that you were 80% sure that there would be a M7 earthquake somewhere within southern or Central California...within a 3 day time window. What would you do? Would you shut down Diablo Canyon nuclear plant. What would you evacuate? Nothing? There have been several M7 quakes that have done very little damage...Landers and Hector Mine come to mind......Chris
