Shadows should only unload faults within about 1 rupture length, so Loma Prieta would have "shadowed" a far smaller area than the 1906 quake. In addition, ruptures tend to load the parts up and down the fault (check the Anatolian sequence of earthquakes in Turkey), and only unload the sides and middle of the area of influence.
